1) Attend Yoga Classes in Om Shanti Om Institute For Free
Yeah, as you know Rishikesh is the yoga capital of India so why don’t just go and book your yoga classes in one of the most maintained and experienced trainers institute ‘Om Shanti Om’. Believe me, it doesn’t matter whether you plan for 1 day or 10 days, you & family will gonna filled with joy after starting off your day with yoga.
2) Sit In A Cafe Nearby Laxman Jhula And Have A Sip of Hot Tea/Coffee While Staring At The Flowing Ganga River
I hope you can feel the above title just by reading only. Words have too much power than your imagination. Make a promise to yourself as till the time you’ll be in Rishikesh you must sit nearby the Ganga river for at least 1 hr a day.
At that time you can laugh, cry, dance, sing, do whatever you feel like. When you are connected with nature and feeling it consciously then you can be completely you and Rishikesh is one of the best places to experience this activity.
3) Shop Little Every Day
Don’t just spend a whole day shopping or buying travel gear. Most of the people including me think that on that very day we do shopping. But then they find themselves bargaining everywhere, struggling to find the right choice and end up buying something which you were not expected to buy or in short Dissatisfied Buying Habits. So make sure to keep this thing in mind.
4) Spend One Night In Camp A Day Before Rafting In Rishikesh
You will be told or suggested to do river rafting pre-breakfast and return on the same day pre-lunch. But let me give you one suggestion here is to spend a night in camp with your family one day before the river rafting. It costs just Rs 200-300 per person more but the vibes you’ll get there are beyond the imagination.
Bonfire, delicious dinner made from wood-fire, playing games with other travelers community, meet and greet with your fellow rafting partners, sit and relax under the gazing stars, and many more.
You may have heard before ‘Job fills your pocket but adventure fills your soul’. This is one of the best adventure sports and among the coolest activities in Rishikesh, so don’t forget to give your soul some treat.
5) Sunset/Sunrise View From Lakshman Jhula
While staying in Rishikesh, you’ll come across Lakshman Jhula several times, but witnessing a sunset from there is like butter on the bread. Either sunset or sunrise, make sure to watch it and have a perfect family picture. It’ll surely give you a perfect Rishikesh feel as it is the famous landmark of Rishikesh.
6) Ganga Aarti At Triveni Ghat
Triveni Ghat is the meet point of three Indian holy rivers – Ganga, Yamuna & Saraswati. Make sure to take a dip in this sacred river before the Ganga aarti.
The cold Ganga water will open up your all senses and makes you a little more conscious about the present moment. Trust me, your family will be going to love this place. It’s just 4-5 km away from the main city center.
7) Have A Glimpse Of The Beatles Ashram
You might have heard of the Beatles ashram before. It is one of the ancient places in the history of Rishikesh where Maharishi Mahesh Yogi practiced yoga and meditation for years.
After him, many Beatles came and continued the practice which makes this place The Beatles Ashram. Now, this ashram is an eco-friendly attraction for tourists in Rajaji national park offering an ecstatic view of the bank of the Ganges.
8) Flying Fox and Camping in Shivpuri, Rishikesh
If you and your family love adventure then you are going to love this. Flying fox is one of the most daring and thrilling adventures in Rishikesh where you’ll be harnessed to a rope and sent forward with a rope attached in the air. Speed can be managed through the machinery from the backend. This adventure must be done at least once in life.
Another activity is staying in Shivpuri, it’s a place from where you rafting will begin. This place has whole new different vibes and perfect for night stay in a camp near the holy Ganges. You can either make your own tent by taking permission from considerable authorities in a nearby area or you can stay in tents which is already built by authorities and private organizations.
9) Neer Garh Waterfalls For Half-Day Picnic
There is a place called Neer Garh waterfalls which is 10 km away from the city center. You can rent a bike and pay a visit. It’s perfect for a half-day picnic.
You can go just after breakfast, enjoy the waterfall bath, eat Kulche-chole (Indian food), have some cool photoshoot, and come back to your hotel in Rishikesh right before lunchtime. This should be the first spot in your Rishikesh bucket list.
10) Visit Spa & Wellness Centers For Rejuvenating Yourselves
Rishikesh is a hub of famous spa and wellness centers. It is basically for the healing of your mental illness rather than your temporary pleasure. If you are stressed or broke from work-life then you should visit any spa or wellness centers in Rishikesh.
It will rejuvenate and relax your mind. They will heal you with traditional yoga and ayurvedic treatments along with super-spiritual stress-relieving activities.
Closure
There are many cheap and affordable hotels in Rishikesh to stay near Ram Jhula or you can rent a camp if you want something adventurous. I would prefer to stay in a hostel or rent a tent with at least 4-5 days of stay in Rishikesh.
So these are some of the points you should consider. I may forget to include some spots but the above ones are the basics when you are visiting Rishikesh with your family. Other religious places in Rishikesh where you can go are Parmarth Niketan Ashram, Raghunath Temple, Kunjpuri Devi Temple, Sivananda Ashram, Omkarnanda Ashram, Geeta Bhawan, Muni Ki Reti, and many more.
